Our Precast Concrete Curved Staircases
Let your imagination take flight with a breath-taking addition to any property...
Kallisto design, manufacture and install luxurious, bespoke precast concrete curved staircases and stair units. Our curved stairs are suitable to take a variety of applied finishes from timber to marble along with the addition of luxurious timber or steel balustrades and handrails, applied on site by others following installation. Please note, it is the requirement of the client to source all finishing aspects of the interior stair installation as this is not provided by Kallisto.
Utilising a range of industry-leading palletised adjustable moulds, we are capable of manufacturing flights of various curved geometries incorporating circular, spiral, elliptical and dogleg (winder), with or without straight treads. Generally, these staircase flights are manufactured as storey-height units with swept soffits in our offsite factory environment.
Our curved concrete stairs are manufactured either as a series of precast flights or as individual cantilever-style steps built into an adjacent wall. The helical, curved and spiral flights are cast inverted with a trowelled soffit and will need an applied plaster skim upon completion of installation.
We are extremely proud to be one of the only UK precast concrete manufacturers that are able to offer a such a diverse range of stair applications, especially our curved and spiral configurations. Winder Staircases
Winder or "dog leg" stairs are stairs that are narrower on one side than the other. Winder stairs are often used in small spaces where a traditional staircase would not fit.
They are used to change the direction of the stairs without the need for additional landings. A series of winders installed in formation can create a circular or spiral staircase.
Helical Staircases
A helical staircase, often referred to as simply a curved staircase, is a staircase that winds around a central void. Helical staircases often form a continuous "C" shape with a larger, consistent radius.
They can also be made to form an oval or elliptical shape configuration. Helical staircases are often used in small spaces where a traditional staircase would not fit, and are used to add a touch of style to a home.
Cantilever Stairs
A cantilever step stair is a type of staircase that is supported by a cantilever beam. The cantilever beam is a beam that is supported at only one end, and the other end projects out into space. Cantilever stone staircases were built by stone masons in the UK from the 17th to 19th centuries. The steps are built into an adjacent wall and carry weight through torsion, not by cantilevering as the name suggests.
This method allows for thin waists as low as 50mm. They are made from individual stone treads that are built into an adjacent wall. The treads of cantilever step stairs are held in place by friction and the weight of anyone walking on them.
Spiral Staircases
A spiral staircase is a type of staircase that winds or "spirals" in a helix around a central column. Spiral staircases are often confused with curved staircases, but there are some key differences between the two.
Spiral staircases are typically much more compact than curved staircases, and the treads radiate around a central column. This makes spiral staircases a good option for smaller spaces.
Slabless Sawtooth Stairs
Slabless staircases, also known as sawtooth or zigzag staircases, are a type of staircase that does not have a waist, which refers to the fact that the treads are not supported by a central beam. This offers an aesthetically pleasing alternative for modern homes and developments.
This can lead to a sense of wonder to those who do not understand how the stairs are designed and what the principles underlying their construction are. They can also be a more efficient use of space than traditional staircases.
